My name is John Baker, I have been a Sports and Remedial Massage Therapist for five years. It is something I am very passionate about as it allows me to help people either get back to doing the things they love or being able to continue to do them.
As a SRMT I believe that the key to your return to having a healthy, pain free lifestyle is movement. In my experience a large percentage of people come to me for help with some form of pain or discomfort which can be easily adjusted for with the right combination of soft tissue work and homecare advice be it some simple stretches or some strength training.
The key message is that you do not need to be sporty to have a sports massage. We all have muscles and we all use them all the time, so it makes sense that from time to time they are going to get a bit tired and need a bit of TLC!
As well as being passionate about sports massage I am also a huge running enthusiast which led me to run a beginners/improvers running club #JBSMFunRunners, click HERE for more information. If I am not running or training in the gym I enjoy cycling and dabbling with a bit of open water swimming. Which is all working towards being some form of triathlete.
I look for ward to meeting you soon and helping you be the best version of you!
I completed my CYQ Level Three Certificate in Sports Massage and Soft Tissue Therapy, which was brilliant but had awoken a thirst for knowledge.
I wanted to find something that would work alongside massage to support the recovery of my clients. Kinesio tape fitted this description to the Tee! So I completed a course in the Kinesio Taping method.
The two courses gave me a great foundation of knowledge to build on.
My search for improving myself led me to The North London School of Sports Massage where I completed a BTEC Level 5 Diploma in Sports and Remedial Massage.
I have gained invaluable experience from working with a wide range of athletes, from the elite down to the grassroots at sporting events.
Here is some of the events I have been working at,
Haute Route Dolomites 2015 – Which is a mammoth multi-stage cycling event from the beautiful Geneva all the way to Venice, Italy. Where the riders tackle some of the toughest climbs Italy has to offer!
Challenge Roth 2015 – Â An iconic triathlon in some of Germany’s most beautiful countryside, where I was a part of the fantastic Race Force team.
HotChillee’s London-Paris 2015 – Another multi-stage cycling event which culminates in the peloton of 400 riders travelling down a closed Champs Elysées.
Ironman Barcelona 2015 – A great triathlon, including a swim up the Spanish coast, again working with Race Force.
I was working with the Argentinian Rugby team prior to their Rugby World Cup 2015 games with The All Blacks and Georgia.
I was providing pre-sport massage to the Jacksonvile Jaguars, an NFL team before their 2015 game at Wembley vs the Buffalo Bills.
Continuing my work with Race Force in 2016 has taken me all across Europe again, working at Ironman Majorca 70.3, Challenge Herning, Challenge Roth and Ironman Barcelona.
I was extremely fortunate to have been given the opportunity to work with Team GB Bobsleigh at a training camp up in the beautiful Italian Alps as part of their preparation for the upcoming season.
I have gained invaluable experience working at a wide range of sporting events across the UK and Europe, which has taught me lots which I can put into practice either at future events or into my day to day practice in clinic.
I am a member of the Sports Massage Association, their purpose is to establish and maintain the ethical, professional and educational standards for Soft Tissue Therapists. Part of the membership involves completing a set amount of continuous professional development hours per year. Something which I fully understand the need for as it keeps my knowledge up to date and keeps on adding to my ability to help my clients, which is what it is all about!
